Concert

Thanks to everyone who came out to the show yesterday! For everyone who couldn't make it, you missed a great show! Far*East Movement is awesome! They really know how to get a crowd going! Honeymoon rocks!! And the ladies of Ms. Senior CA sung their hearts out! I loved when these little boys got on stage with Far*East Movement and started breakdancing! I also loved the fact that two little girls recorded Honeymoon on their phones and went and asked for Sarah's autograph! I hope the bands had a good time playing...even if the turnout wasn't what I wanted it to be. Anthony was a great emcee. Everyone thought he should do it for a living! I had fun...I hope everyone who came did too!

End of summer concert fundraiser

Summer '06 will not be complete without a concert, and I'm planning my first one ever. I'm quite nervous that people will show up and have fun. Here's an email (edited version) sent out by David:

For all of our Texas supporters who can't make our fundraising concert in Pomona, CA, have no fear, The Queen from Virginia is coming to you in September!

The Queen from Virginia has been selected to screen at the Dallas VPS Film Festival on September 15-16 @ the University of Texas at Arlington (www.vpsdallas.org/filmfestival.htm).

The Summer Concert is just 1 1/2 weeks away! Thank you to everyone thus far who has purchased advance VIP tickets and/or spirit tickets. Your support means a lot! And it's going to be a HOT show!!

Poker Update 8.18.06

Alright...so the original reason why I started the poker updates was to prove that Carrie won the majority of these lunchtime games. And today, she proved it to be true. She won!

Tomorrow is the Ladies Event at the Bike...here's what I'm supposed to include in my e-mail at the end of my signature at work:

“GO ALL IN FOR THE CURE! WPT is teaming up with The Susan G. Komen Foundation to help fight against breast cancer at this year’s Ladies’ Night event. To make a donation or to participate in our online auction, visit www.worldpokertour.com . Tune-in October 28th at 8pm on the Travel Channel to watch the Ladies’ showdown at the Final Table.”

I can't decide if I want to play or not. On the one hand, I think it's for a great cause, and my boss sure would love me. On the other hand, I haven't really played a tournament since my dad's birthday in early July, so I'm rusty. $125 buy-in is a bit steep for the rusty...we'll see how I feel in the morning.

Prayer for Serenity

I love the beginning of this prayer:

God, grant me serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can and wisdom to know the difference...

I've been saying a lot of prayers recently. I've been saying prayers to Sarah and her family. Her dad is in ICU, and had a number of complications. I've been saying prayers to Anthony and his family. His dad is in the hospital for triple bypass surgery. I've been saying prayers to a former editor's family. He apparently committed suicide and leaves behind small children. And I've been saying prayers for a cameraman's family. He died from a burst appendix early Wednesay morning. He leaves behind a pregnant fiance.
